What determines whether a tattoo can be refreshed
From a photograph and once the tattoo has healed, we assess what is natural ageing, what can be added and where adding more pigment could make the result look heavier.

A fresh tattoo changes as it heals. We assess whether a touch-up is needed only when the skin is settled and fully healed.

Linework and shading
We look for broken areas, blurring, loss of detail and the balance between light and dark areas.

New pigment needs to work with the shade that remains in the skin, rather than simply matching the original photograph.

Common questions about tattoo refreshes
What is the difference between a touch-up, rework and cover-up?
A touch-up adds to the original design. A rework changes it more substantially but retains its foundation. A cover-up uses a new design to cover the original tattoo.
When can you assess whether a tattoo needs a touch-up?
Only once the skin is fully healed and settled, and the tattoo's appearance is no longer changing. A fresh tattoo may look dull, uneven or lighter while it heals.
Do you also refresh tattoos done by another artist?
Yes, if our assessment shows that refreshing it makes sense. From a photograph, we assess the condition and style of the design, then recommend a suitable artist from our team.
Can you restore the exact original colour?
Not always exactly. The final shade is affected by the pigment remaining in the skin, skin tone, new pigment and subsequent healing.
Why does a tattoo fade over time?
Its appearance is affected by natural ageing, sun exposure, friction, placement and long-term care. Once healed, protecting the tattoo from UV exposure can help.
What if the skin is irritated or changing?
We do not tattoo the area. If the skin is painful, inflamed or changing, have it assessed by a doctor first.
How do I get a price estimate?
